Small Towns Without Movie Theaters Show Movies Outdoors

Outdoor movie events bring the movie theater experience outside to create a fun and unique cinema experience. Modern equipment allow outdoor movie viewers to enjoy the same high quality experience enjoyed by traditional movie house patrons. For towns without movie theaters, outdoor movies are a great alternative.

Currently, there are small towns all over the country without cinema complexes. By 2013, more small movie-picture theaters could be closing their doors when the movie industry switches to all-digital technology. Films will no longer be released in traditional 35 millimeter film prints, and theaters without the technology to show digital films will be forced to shut down. The cost of converting to digital in a movie house is around $65,000, leaving this conversion out of reach for many small, older movie theaters.

There are already many towns without a motion picture theater, and this change will lead to more. Residents of towns like this are left with the options of missing out on these movies or traveling to a town with a movie theater. Portable inflatable cinema technology gives these communities another option: outdoor cinema.

Inflatable movie screens are available in a variety of sizes to fit into many different locations, and accommodate small or large crowds. High quality theatrical screens and HD projectors, along with clear sound, bring the movie theater experience to any location. An outdoor movie can be held almost anywhere; holding it at a historic site or downtown can enhance the experience and make it more special for the community.

Going out to see a new movie with friends or family is a completely different experience than watching it at home. Small towns without theaters and those that stand to lose a theater with the digital conversion will be missing out. Outdoor cinema technology can provide a replacement that sometimes proves to be even better than a traditional movie theater.

Movies under the stars provide entertainment and can bring a community together. Event organizers can take their pick of locations, maybe a popular community park, or another location that is special to the community. An outdoor cinema also allows community members to come together and watch a movie all at the same time, rather than being limited by the size of a movie theater. Outdoor movies are being shown in communities all over, to provide a unique cinema experience. For towns without traditional movie theaters, outdoor cinema is even more special. In these towns, outdoor movies replace the movie theater experience by providing another cinema option. Providing articles, reviews and writings on movies online.

Skyfall: Review

To start off, I really enjoyed Casino Royal and thought it was a fantastic, much needed reboot of Bond. Quantum of Solace was a cluster and disappointment though. Much more ambitious than Casino Royal and ended up being meh.

So Skyfall looked interesting right from the first trailer. It looked like Bond was finally going to fall at the knees of a villain, or at least thats what the trailer led on. The title Skyfall also sounds mysterious and very important. So did the film live up to the Bond legacy. Well, of course it did.

Skyfall starts off a little slow, Even though the opening act is a chase sequence that includes motor bikes and a fight scene on top of a moving train. It ends with Bond being shot by his partner on accident. The whole opening scene didn't seem intense or anything and was a bit boring. So right off the start I was worried. The opening credits that follow right after, tops the best of the Bond songs. Adele's theme is fantastic.

Then we get to the juice of the film. The whole middle act is just so much better than the beginning and ending of the film. We learn that M must retire and that Ralph Fiennes character is pretty much going to take her place after. But M refuses untill her current job is over. M thinks Bond is dead. Then there's an attack on M16, which brings Bond back from the dead to help M investigate and find who is doing this. Then the whold middle act starts and the world adventure begins. Its all fun to watch and the acting is great. Also the way this film was shot is stunning. This is definitely the best looking Bond film

Javiar Bardem portrays the villain in Skyfall and is just fantastic. He practically steals the show, giving a performance worthy of some sort of reward! But he enters the film about half way through and is in the film not nearly as long as I would like.

The ending is a huge letdown. After Bardem's character takes a direct shot at M, her and Bond flee to Bonds child hood house. The whole ending is a shoot out defending Bonds old mansion and is just underwhelming. The act was just as a let down as the opening scene and it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, as your thinking "That's it"?

Overall this is a better film than the previous Bond film, but doesn't even touch Casino Royal. The played the film a little safe this time around. But there were a few nice touches, having a much darker tone, a crazy villain, and a Bond that is coming out of retirement.

Even with all the complaining, I did enjoy the film. Now its time to wait for whats next. Which has the parts to make the best Bond ever. Final Score: 8.0. Providing useful articles, reviews and writings on movies and films online.

Prometheus Review, Symbols and Themes

Prometheus, directed and produced by Ridley Scott, had quite a bit of hype, especially from me. It was great, and had a few plot holes in the second half that didn't quite ruin it, but were unpleasant. Many viewers will not "get it" if they have not seen and remember the original Alien movie. It's not just another shoot-em-up sci-fi movie, it's a pretty big deal for fans of the series. If you plan on seeing Prometheus and don't remember the 1979 Alien film or haven't seen it, I think it's essential that you watch Alien first.

The characters were good. Not phenomenal, but good. And the acting was excellent, for the most part. I felt sorry for the archaeologist, Elizabeth Shaw, and I just wanted to give her a hug the whole second half of the movie. The android, David, was also a memorable character. Elements of Blade Runner were present in this character, specifically the idea of the "tears in the rain" monologue. In fact, the actor for the android avoided watching the original Alien movies, and instead got the inspiration for his character from Blade Runner.

The two screen writers, John Spaihts and Damon Lindelof (co-creator of Lost), did a decent job. Spaihts is somewhat new to the writing scene, but has experience writing sci-fi. He wrote the original script, but then Lindelof rewrote it, probably fixing some things while creating more plot holes. I think it was the script that took away the most from the film. I don't know which writer is more responsible. But I'd be willing to go out on a limb and say Lindelof, considering he's been writing about being stranded on a tropical island for years, and then suddenly jumps into the sci-fi genre. Seriously, someone who once wrote for a MTV show called Undressed--clearly a sign of writing just for money--has no business messing with the Alien universe. I just had to let that out.

The cinematography was amazing. Just as expected from a Ridley Scott movie. The intro shots were especially good, and the imagery provided in the opening scene let me know that Scott had not forgotten that important part of Alien. Most of Scott's movies are deep and full of thematic elements. He did not disappoint with this one.

SPOILERS BELOW

The movie opens with a humanoid, pale alien standing on top of a waterfall on Earth, probably tens of thousands of years ago. He drinks a black liquid (which seems to be alive) and we witness rapid changes in his DNA, as the strands are twisted apart. His skin starts to deteriorate and he falls into the waterfall, with his limbs falling apart. He dies and supposedly plants his DNA in Earth, so it can have life. I think the purpose of this scene is to show that the humanoid aliens are responsible for life on Earth.

The first half of the movie is the best. I appreciate buildup. The two main scientists are trying to discover these "Engineers" on an alien planet, indicated by star maps found across Earth. The Engineers are assumed to be the creators of human life; the humanoid at the beginning scene was an Engineer. I find it funny that Meredith, the Weyland Corporation employee, is so controlling of their expedition. It's allegorical to PhD researchers who have to deal with being controlled all the time.

Throughout the first half especially, it was surprisingly philosophical and spiritual. I know that Ridley Scott wanted to take it this way; he believes that most science fiction films don't cover these topics, when they should. During their transit to the alien planet, which takes two years in cryosleep, David (the android) observes Shaw's (the female archaeologist) dreams. In the dream she is a little girl with her dad on what seems to be a digging expedition. A cross necklace appears over the image in the dream a few times; this symbol becomes important later on. She and her dad discuss what happens after death, and her dad says it's something like paradise. She asks why he says so, and he replies "because that's what I choose to believe."

David, being an android who is troubled by his existence, is the main cause of all the trouble that ensues. At one point he asks Charlie Holloway (Shaw's love interest) why they created him. Holloway replies "because we could." David goes on to ask if Holloway would be satisfied if he asked his creator that question, and got the same answer. There are many points like this in the movie, which help propagate the existential dilemma that exists in the human mind. The whole philosophical part of the movie is based around the "greatest question," regarding who/what created us and why, who created the creator and why, and so on. I think the important conclusion in the movie to this question, is that there is no answer, and never will be. It's about living with existence and enjoying it best you can.

It's not exactly known why David infects Holloway with the black fluid. It's either due to his immense curiosity or receiving orders from Peter Weyland, who is secretly hiding on the ship. After Holloway is infected by taking the drink offered to him by David, he visits Shaw in her room. She's found that the Engineer's DNA is a match to human DNA. Holloway says they've found their creators, and tells her she can take her father's cross off now. She refuses to, saying that they don't know who created their creators.

We learn that Shaw is unable to bear children, and she's quite upset about it. The two proceed to sleep together that night. And it's easy to see it coming that whatever was in Holloway's system would be in her system now. On their next expedition outside, Holloway becomes too sick and ends up volunteering to be immolated, to avoid spreading the infection. The event was traumatic for Shaw, but Holloway's death didn't have much of an impact on the plot.

After Holloway's death, David is checking Shaw for infections in the medical bay. David insists that she takes off her cross necklace for the body scan. She complies and David takes the cross. She learns that she is three months pregnant. It's also revealed that it is "not a traditional fetus." Almost immediately after learning this, she says "I want it out" and screams "get it out of me."Â Just ten hours ago, she was desperate to have a child, and now she wants an abortion. She doesn't know whether or not it's dangerous, but she assumes it is. David reflects on the circumstances and says "it must feel like your God abandoned you." The symbolism here is obvious.

The next scene is one of the most disturbing I've seen in a movie, not just because of the graphic aspect, but the emotion as well. Shaw escapes from the medical bay and finds the emergency surgery pod, in hopes to remove the developing fetus. She finds out that the pod is meant for male patients only, after requesting a caesarean section. I find it odd that it would be calibrated for male patients only. There's a symbolic importance in this, I haven't quite figured it out yet. She proceeds to have a "foreign body" removal surgery instead, and injects herself with painkillers and enters the pod. The painkillers are not enough for anesthesia, and the process is painful. Her lower stomach is slit open and a mechanical arm reaches in and pulls out the alien fetus, which begins squirming violently, trying to get back inside her stomach.

She's now trapped inside the surgery pod with the partially developed alien baby being held above her, as her stomach is stitched back up. She manages to get out of the pod and contain the alien inside. Since it was moving around in her stomach, it was probably gestated enough to survive on its own outside. I think Ridley Scott was referring to this scene and a few others when he was asked about the rating and said "the question is, do you go for the PG-13, or do you go for what it should be, which is R? Financially it makes quite a difference... essentially it's kinda R... it's not just about blood, it's about ideas that are very stressful."

What happened next really threw me off. She re-enters the medical bay and it is revealed that Peter Weyland, the founder of the Weyland company, is alive and aboard the ship. The main reason this threw me off is because the mood set from the last scene was completely lost and forgotten. There is no mention ever made by anyone of the alien fetus that was inside Shaw. But her pain is still clearly presented.

So Peter Weyland is much too old to be alive (obviously being kept alive by technology--transhumanism) and wishes to ask the Engineers to extend his life. His character is someone who has not accepted death, and is desperately clinging to life. In order for him to walk into the buried ship with the Engineers, he must have mechanical assistance from a suit he wears. He doesn't even get to ask his question to the awakened Engineer before being pummeled to death by it. I guess he got his answer.

The Engineer that was awakened doesn't appear that intelligent, even though they are presented as super-intelligent beings. He refuses trying to communicate with the humans and just resorts to killing them. He then readies the ship in order to go to Earth and spread the black liquid among the population, which appears to be a biological weapon at this point, which mutates humans into overpowered monsters. This is the part of the plot that's annoying, it feels like it was just kind of thrown in there.

The captain back on the human ship decides to sacrifice himself to bring down the ship by suicide bombing it, to prevent Earth from being destroyed. The two other crew members on the bridge agree to sacrifice themselves as well. They had previously made a bet, and one agrees to pay up "on the other side." The cinematography at work here is clearly stating the importance of their belief in the afterlife. They raise their hands, as if riding a roller coaster, before they collide with the alien ship. It's noticeable that the daughter of Peter Weyland is also desperately clinging to life. We see her struggling to make it to an escape pod and put on a space suit in time. She makes it out, but is still crushed by the crashing alien ship, revealing that her struggle was meaningless.

Shaw manages to survive the crash and makes it back to the surgery pod room where the alien that she carried is contained. It has grown to be huge and resembles an octopus (which was actually Dan O'Bannon's original idea of the facehugger). David, who has been decapitated but is still functioning, radios her and warns her of the Engineer who is approaching the ship. I'm not sure why the Engineer found it necessary to try and kill her. Maybe he was just angry after his ship crashed, or trying to eliminate all the humans that were left. When the Engineer enters, she opens the containment area and the octopus alien is released. I'm going to call it the Master Facehugger, since it's basically a very large facehugger and starts the whole process of the queen alien, except it resembles a sea monster more than a crab or a spider. So the Master Facehugger grabs hold of the Engineer while Shaw escapes, and latches onto him to begin the process of alien gestation.

After Shaw finds David, she asks him where her cross necklace is. It seems that after finding David and putting the necklace on, she has regained her strength to keep going. Just before this, she was lying on the ground, telling David "I can't do this anymore." After that, she puts David's head in a duffel bag and gets out of the ship (this generated many laughs in the theatre). Most of the ending dialogue between Shaw and David was weak and not well thought out.

Death acceptance and death denial are huge thematic elements. During the dream early in the film, Shaw as a little girl saw a man being carried in a funeral and asked her dad why he died. Her dad says, "sooner or later, everyone dies." It sometimes seems, that part of the crew is clinging to their current life, and the other part may be clinging to the afterlife. It proposes the question--what does it mean to accept death? It's symbolic to the never-ending struggle to find peace with existence.

The theme regarding motherhood and abortion is also important. A friend of mine pointed out an interesting fact in the Aliens film. When Ripley finds the queen alien, it's kind of a horrifying scene, and she has all of her eggs around her and is violent, in a less-than-happy situation. That particular movie was released during a time when feminism was starting to become successful. The Alien franchise has always carried a subliminal message.

For those who don't believe Alien movies have an underlying message, read what the screenwriter for the 1979 movie, Dan O'Bannon, said: "One thing that people are all disturbed about is sex... I said 'That's how I'm going to attack the audience; I'm going to attack them sexually. And I'm not going to go after the women in the audience, I'm going to attack the men. I am going to put in every image I can think of to make the men in the audience cross their legs. Homosexual oral rape, birth. The thing lays its eggs down your throat, the whole number.'"

So, in reality, there's much more going on in movies than most people are aware of. Only certain people will see it, and some will interpret it differently. That's alright, that's what art is meant for.

Another thing worth mentioning are the snake-like monsters they found. Before those appeared, an earthworm was shown in the soil around the area. So after the black liquid was released, the earthworm must have been infected and morphed into the monster.

Also, the ending sequence of the Xenomorph (black colored alien) leaves more questions. It would seem that it is the queen alien, and it proceeds to lay eggs in the crashed ship, which they find in the original movie. If it's not the queen alien, then there's still the possibility of using the other live Engineers that are sleeping for gestation. Either way, it makes enough sense to proceed to the original movie. Although, the Space Jockey scene is not exactly explained. Note: these were my original thoughts on the Xenomorph at the end, right after viewing. It's been confirmed that they are actually on a different planetoid.

There has been some speculation that the pale-skinned humanoid aliens are not the Engineers. I'd consider this a definite possibility, which opens up another great batch of questions. Looks like we'll have to wait for a sequel to Prometheus to know for sure.

Overall, it's a very thought provoking and stunning film. The visual effects and sound were incredible, and the use of CGI didn't take anything away from the movie. In the end, however, the original 1979 Alien will always be the most memorable one.

What Film To Watch Tonight

So just in case you have haven't heard of it, Twitter is a recent addition to the Social Network spectrum which involves posting (or tweeting) small messages to a group of self proclaimed followers.

Twitter exploded specifically through the Arab uprisings and has become a de facto real time News source for many people. The thing that most interests me about this is that people are starting to ask questions of the Twitter-sphere like 'what film to watch #decisions' being a common one.

So what are people's real expectations of asking these questions?

Unlike Yahoo Answers Twitter is not a fan of people abusing the ability to direct posts to people who aren't followers however I am sure that Twitter users are not relying on their own followers for advice. I base this on the fact that during my research I have found that few people answer tweeted questions. Especially if the user has few followers and little notoriety in the Twitter field.

So are uses expecting random people to respond?

I did a test, I focused my research on the Twitter question posted above. I set up a small experiment where I build an automated Twitter personality who would search recent tweets for these questions 'what film to watch' and post back responses. The responses varied from simple film suggestions:

'What about The Godfather?'

To more complex responses such as suggesting multiple films:

'What about The Godfather or Scarface?'

And then on to more useful responses including links to popular sources of trailers and/or reviews to allow the user to click through to the relevant resource and find out more.

So what were the findings?

Well people's expectations fell into a few categories.

The first were tried and tested users of Twitter who exhibited large tweet counts, large following and follower counts who would ignore this message or worse report it as spam. These users were net contributors to Twitter. They would use Twitter as a social platform to advertise themselves and their own thoughts.

The second were more moderate users of Twitter who exhibited small tweet counts and small follower counts but perhaps large following counts. These users would be grateful for the answer since they shows signs of being a net beneficiary from Twitter. They would use Twitter as an information source, be likely to subscribe to News websites and other information sources. These users were more likely to retweet the response or even respond back.

So in conclusion I found that Twitter is full of contributors and beneficiaries. Depending on the context people's attitudes to anonymous responses would differ. Is this something Twitter should considering in their Social Network model? What do you think? Providing useful articles, reviews and writings on movies and films online.

Music Soundtracks Are Essential to the Best Film Experience

Films are considered a mainly visual experience, and many people don't stop to consider just how important music is in movies. Audiences don't just watch; they also take in auditory stimuli. During the time of silent films, music was an essential part of telling the story, and live pianists were employed by theaters to accompany the visual feast. Characters were shaped and events foreshadowed using music to convey thought and emotion.

Chances are that if the music soundtrack were removed from a film, the omission would quickly be noticed. The movie would not be as enjoyable, and it would feel like something was missing. Music adds to the perception of things unseen. It has the power to alter mood and to change it, if needed. An epic score makes the sword fights more exciting, or increases the impact of a death.

Modern films often seem to lack the brilliant scores that were the norm during the Golden Age of Hollywood, when "Gone with the Wind" and "The Adventures of Robin Hood" were hits. The 1970s and 1980s also had some of the most memorable original soundtracks, with classics such as John Williams' work on "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark."

Imagine no "Star Wars Theme," if you can. Darth Vader will always be tied to "The Imperial March." Indiana Jones will always have his "Raiders March." Williams also gave magic to the world of Harry Potter, giving a sense of whimsy when appropriate, or of dire consequence such as that conveyed during the sad aftermath of the Battle of Hogwarts.

Effective music does not always have to be an original score. The best examples are two films directed by Robert Zemeckis: "Back to the Future" and "Forest Gump." Each of these films deals with time travel and historical accounts.

Music from the times adds to the experience for the viewers, taking them along with the characters and their worlds. "American Psycho" uses music in such a manner to convey that the protagonist is mentally unstable and also to set the mood of 1987. The character of Patrick Bateman analyzes pop lyrics much like he does other matters, which reveals him as a psychopath with violent tendencies. His analysis of Phil Collins' "Sussudio" and Huey Lewis and the News' "Hip to be Square," among other songs, is all about who Bateman is.

One film is credited for bringing quality film soundtracks back to the masses. Hans Zimmer arranged the score for Ridley Scott's "Gladiator." It is not considered his best work, with only the haunting yet hopeful song "Elysium" as a standout, but sales of the soundtrack make it one of the most popular. Zimmer also brought the tremendous sounds to " Inception." Without such an ambitious soundtrack, the fantastical dream sequences in the movie would not have had the same impact. The pounding staccato beats that reach a boisterous crescendo of low brass and horns added magnitude to important sequences.

These days, there are few television shows in Hollywood that use live, full orchestras and scored themes. However, to hear an original soundtrack is a treat for the ears and mind. The science fiction drama "Fringe" is one of these, with music composed by Michael Giacchino and Chris Tilton. Each major character has his or her own individual theme, and there is even a couple's theme. Every episode has some original cues or variations on existing themes. Often described as a family drama masquerading as science fiction, the show is full of a range of human emotions. It would not be half of what it is without the perfect musical accompaniment.

In addition, the show makes excellent use of existing songs. One of the most emotional moments in the series places one of the main characters-Walter Bishop (John Noble)-in an old, abandoned taxi cab. His world is upside down, his family in despair, and there seems to be little hope left in a dystopian future. He takes an old mix CD and plays it. Yazoo's "Only You" comes on, and as he listens tearfully, he sees a lone dandelion emerging from the cracks of a sidewalk. As a result of the music, this beautiful scene conveys so much hope and emotion.

The importance of music is constantly referred to in the show. As Walter says, it helps him to shift perspective and to see things differently. This is true of any film audience, and it nicely sums up the importance of a music soundtrack. Providing useful articles, reviews and writings on movies and films online.

Auf Wiedersehen, Pet Locations

When the show hit our screens in the early 1980's, it was the time before the internet, so finding out information like where the show was filmed was not easy. In modern times, you simply have to type in what you are looking for, and within seconds you have your answer.

Filming for the first 2 series of the show was mostly done in the UK, with London, Newcastle and Nottingham being used for outdoor locations. In series 1, many locations around London doubled on screen for areas of Newcastle, with only keen eyed viewers in 1983 knowing the difference.

In 1986, the show returned to our screens for a second series, and locations such as Newcastle, Wolverhampton and Spain being used on screen. Nottinghamshire was used for almost all of the UK filming, with the exception of a few scenes being filmed in Newcastle. Wolverhampton on screen was actually Beeston, Nottinghamshire and even an indoor scene in a Spanish pub was actually filmed also on location in Beeston.

It does take a very keen eyed viewer to notice that it is not where it says it is on screen, but many die hard fans of the show, will know exact spots where the cast such as Jimmy Nail and Kevin Whately stood and said there lines.

In 2002, the show was revived by the BBC, and places such as Middlesbrough were used. Newcastle was used also this time, and the show spread it's wings wide and filming was also done on location in Page, Arizona, USA.

2004, saw the 4th and also last 2 episodes of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet being shown on UK screens. This time the location on screen was Cuba, but as they could not acquire a license to film their, the Dominican Republic was used instead. At the end of 2004 2 episodes were shown over the Christmas period, and this brought an end to almost 25 years of the show being on our screens. Thailand was used on screen for these 2 final episodes, featuring 5 of the original cast. Sadly in 1986, Gary Holton died whilst filming the second series of the show, and then in 2004 Pat Roach died of cancer, and did not appear in the final episodes.

If you are going to travel around the UK or even the world looking for Auf Wiedersehen, Pet locations, then please remember that many of these places are private property. I have always been welcomed to the places I have visited, and most love the fast that their property or land was used on such an iconic tv show. Watch Movies Online, How to Protect Yourself

Movies are the excellent stress busters that never let you fall prey to boredom. You can enjoy them wherever you want, in a cinema hall, at home on DVD player or online. Whereas these ways accompany varied benefits, they also have certain associated pitfalls. For example, visiting a theater and making all those expenditures on tickets, popcorn and soft drinks could take a heavy toll on your pocket. Likewise, the quality of DVD you play at home may or may not be up to the mark. Interestingly, the freedom to watch movies online without paying single penny sets you free from adopting the first two options. But whether this method is safe or not, let us find out.

Security concerns while watching flicks online:

Like all the other activities you perform online, enjoying online movies as well demands sedate security measures. Unfortunately if you lag behind at any step, you are likely to get trapped in the network of hackers and consequently your computer data could be at grave risk of being stolen. In addition, copyright owners could file lawsuits against you on the offense of copyright infringement. You would definitely not like the idea to get caught amid such hassles, would you?

Suitable protective measures:

With so many demerits of accessing movie websites, and downloading one to enjoy in your free time, you can easily decide to avoid this activity. But if you can bear a little bit patience and follow certain essential tips, protecting yourself from online hassles during your stint with online movies won't be that hard affair. Below are some important tips in this context:

• Keep distance from unsolicited links that ask you to download your preferred movie, they can trick you to open doors for the malware to enter into your system

• Utilizing a Virtual private network could let you add an additional security layer towards your endeavor of relishing a movie over the internet. It will hide your real IP address with a different IP and hence will keep you anonymous online.

• Browse through websites that allow you to watch or download movies legally. Prominently two types of films fall under this category, viz a viz, public domain flicks and movies that are licensed for online viewing.

Insight into safe film categories:

Public Domain Films: These types of motion pictures are copyrighted but have their links over the web for a very short span of time. You are free to enjoy them through live streaming or by downloading them, to watch later on. HBO's Game of Thrones, As Good As The Book?

Game of Thrones is the title of the first book in a yet to be finished fantasy series by George R.R. Martin, entitled A Song Of Fire And Ice. Game Of Thrones is also a recently released game on 360 and PS3, a board game, a card game, a tabletop role playing game, a graphic novel, the subject of several iOS and Google Play apps, and an upcoming Facebook game. It's also one of the hottest IP's around right now, thanks largely in part to the wildly popular HBO program currently airing its second season, as well as the DVD/Blu-ray release of the Emmy and Golden Globe winning first season, available now.

I'll be honest. I'm a proponent of the tenet that the book is always better than the movie. Only in the cases where the book was written first, that is. If it says "The novelization based on the film" on the cover, then it's kindling. I'm snooty that way. Even when I know that the book is better, because it's always better, I'm still occasionally drawn to see a film adaptation. Maybe it's because a friend, or naive critic, says something like, "every bit as good as the book." Sometimes it's because I'm such a fan of the source material that I have to see how they butcher it with my own eyes.

Either way, whenever I see a film based on a book I've read, I always have one of three reactions: 1) Pleasantly surprised (i.e. Fight Club, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile). 2) Decidedly indifferent (Trainspotting, Stephen King's It,). 3) Desporrified, a made-up word combining despair and horrified (Breakfast of Champions, everything else Stephen King's let become a movie that's not already listed here). In every case, whether surprised, indifferent or desporrified, I still come away thinking the book is superior to the film in every way. Until Game of Thrones that is. Now my worldview has been shattered.

To HBO's credit, the show remains very true to the source material, differing on only the very slightest of details. Much of the dialogue is straight from the novel, and in retrospect the pacing of the book is almost ideal for screenwriting. This may be due to Martin's previous work as a television writer, most notably for the mid-80's revival of The Twilight Zone. From the outset, the show seems to focus on Eddard Stark, Lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North.

Early on in the series, he's tapped by his old friend Robert Baratheon, who has become King of the Seven Kingdoms, to help him rule as the king's top advisor, the Hand. Over the course of 10 episodes we're introduced to a myriad of nobles, charlatans, rogues and scoundrels, but at the close of season one it is apparent that the only real stars of the show are intrigue, the machinations of the court, and the things people will do while chasing power. Of course while people play their game, the shadow of a larger threat looms. Winter is coming.

It's hard to deny that the show is outstanding, as evidenced by the aforementioned Emmy and Golden Globe wins in Outstanding Drama Series and Best Television Series-Drama respectively. The casting is superb, and includes Peter Dinklage, who also won an Emmy for his portrayal of Tyrion Lannister, and Sean Bean as Eddard 'Ned' Stark. Bean is probably best known for his portrayal of Boromir in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy (Pleasantly surprised on that one, if you're keeping track).

The cinematography is excellent as well, and adds a visual element somewhat lacking in the books. Martin's writing is focused primarily on the characters, and flowery descriptions of the environments are few and far between. Largely shot in Northern Ireland and Malta, the sets and supporting shots are beautiful, and bring to life the keeps and castles in a way that Martin himself doesn't.

Although jokingly described as "The Sopranos in Middle-earth" by series co-creator David Benioff, the description is quite apt. Like Tolkien's trilogy, Game of Thrones would have to be considered "high fantasy" due to the presence of creatures of myth and mystical/magical elements. However these things play more in the background of Martin's books, as well as the show, with Game of Thrones leaning more towards the Middle Ages than Middle-earth. The Sopranos comparison is a little more apt. Like it, and many other HBO shows, Game of Thrones is decidedly adult. Nudity and gratuitous violence abound throughout the series, and are the only real source of complaint voiced by critics of the show.

However, if you're looking for a show that has all the backstabbing and violence of The Sopranos, all of the sex of Californication, and as many people covered in dirt as Deadwood, you should probably come down to Slackers and order the first season of Game of Thrones on Blu-ray or DVD today. Even if you're not looking for a new show to watch, you still need to check this one out. I can hardly believe I'm saying this, but it really is as good as the book. Hollywood News and Increasing Popularity of Movie Reviews

One of the most talked about movies of 2011 in Hollywood News nowadays is Contagion. Contagion is one of the recently released English Movies which takes place in a city that is surrounded by a deadly disease and portrays how a band of doctors from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and World Health Organization (WHO) struggle to deal with the rising threat. The movie is directed by the renowned Oscar-winning film director Steven Soderbergh who has also directed numerous box office breakers such as Erin Brokovich, Traffic, Ocean's Eleven, Ocean's Twelve, Ocean's Thirteen, and many more. He received an Academy Award for Best Director for his 2000 film, Traffic.

The movie Contagion is expected to gain success, both in the US and worldwide. It features notable actors and actresses such as Marion Cotillard, Laurence Fishburne, Matt Damon, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jennifer Ehle. The star-studded cast alone encourages movie enthusiasts to visit cinemas all over the world and watch the film.
Hollywood News reports in a nutshell, that the story takes place mostly in Minneapolis that is hit by a contagious disease brought by a woman named Beth Emhoff (played by Gwyneth Paltrow) who has just come back to her home in Minneapolis after a brief business trip to Hong Kong. Immediately after her return, Beth is rushed to a local hospital and she dies shortly after her treatment, leaving behind her husband Mitch Emhoff (played by Matt Damon) and her stepson. Not long after her death, 32 people including her stepson die from an unknown disease which has symptoms similar to the disease that Beth suffered from.

As the contagion spreads, the officials of the city of Minneapolis discuss possible solutions, airports are closed down, and national security guards are assigned to protect the city. Meanwhile, a team of CDC and World Health Organization (WHO) doctors (portrayed by Laurence Fishburne, Kate Winslet, and Marion Cotillard) tries their best to combat the contagion by finding a cure before the entire city is wiped out by the disease.

Contagion was released in the United States, Canada, Italy, and five other countries on September 9, 2011, but it was premiered at the 68th Venice Film Festival on last September 3, 2011. One day before the world premiere, Warner Bros. held advanced screenings in 550 theaters across the United States. After spending a total of $60 million on the production budget, Warner Bros. was confident that the movie would become a Box Office success and so did happen.

English movies are released each week in Hollywood. The movie Contagion is just one of many Hollywood movies released in 2011. The increasing popularity of small screen is also one of the reasons for popularity of Hollywood movies.

Top 10 Movies of 2011

It's been quite a year at the movies in 2011: We've seen 3D take over, childhood favorites return, major cities explode, franchises reboot, writers time-traveling, and existential indies ruminate on the nature of the universe. In other words, a lot like what we watched in 2010. But still, a few trends emerged, as new aliens attacked seemingly every other weekend, the hard-R comedy made a strong comeback and our shared nostalgia was exploited wherever and whenever possible.

Meanwhile, Hollywood gave us a steady stream of sensory assaults in various forms in 2011, from giant robots smashing buildings to Micheal Fassbender going full frontal. (Just be glad Shame director Steve McQueen didn't decide to join Micheal Bay on the growing 3D bandwagon.)

And while year-end "Best Of" lists have become as much of an annual December tradition as collectively pretending our movie tastes improve in the winter months, that's not stopping us from recapping the year in movies. So here's what we were watching in 2011. They may not all be Oscar contenders, but you weren't fooling anyone with your half-bakedTree of Life dissertation anyway.

Best "Foreign-Language" Film: Attack the Block

Okay, so this British sci-fi horror/comedy is technically in English, but its protagonists' heavy South London accents and unfamiliar slang had North American distributors considering tacking subtitles onto it before it crossed the pond. But despite the potential language barrier, this clever foreign import about an inner-city alien encounter had no trouble translating to audiences sick of a summer full of less-than-stellar domestic alien invasion thrillers.

Of course, it helped that the genre-twisting comedy about aliens touching down in a South London housing project owes a lot to Shaun of the Dead in both tone and style (no wonder, since it was produced by Edgar Wright). In it, a gang of wannabe teenage gangsters find themselves squaring off against a horde of interstellar ETs with glow-in-the-dark fangs, resulting in a movie that's fast-paced, subversively smart and, above all, a hell of a lot of fun. Who said foreign films had to be bleak - or in a different language?

Best R-Rated Comedy: Horrible Bosses

At the end of last year, it looked like The Hangover Part II had this category locked up, sight unseen. But then we finally saw it, and, well, the door was still wide open. But while there were no shortage of contenders, from The Change-Up to Bad Teacher, Horrible Bosses was by far the funniest - and raunchiest - of the foul-mouthed bunch.

Probably because this gleefully demented revenge fantasy about a trio of disgruntled employees and their dimwitted attempts to knock off their cartoonishly terrible bosses gave us more memorable lines than the rest of the summer's comedies combined. Credit the strong chemistry of its three leads, Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day, who made the mean-spirited wish fulfillment work where the summer's other hard-R comedies failed.

Best 3D Movie: Hugo

Yes, Hugo is a kid's movie, but it's a kid's movie from Martin Scorsese, and that alone makes it worth a spot on this list. Still, the director best known for mafia movies and crime dramas delivers a master class in 3D filmmaking with Hugo. Scorsese clearly did his homework for the film, packing the frame with objects to enhance the 3D effect, and the acclaimed director uses the modern technology to tell a story about early movie-making, drawing clear parallels between those original cinematic magic tricks and our current ones.

And after the glut of gimmicky cash-grab 3D had moviegoers' interest in the added dimension fading, Hugo shows the massive potential of the technology when it's placed in the right hands. Even James Cameron was blown away. Scorsese recently said he'd prefer to do all his movies from now on in 3D. After Hugo, sign us up. Let's just hope his next one features a more adult story.

Best Summer Movie: Rise of the Planet of the Apes

When it comes to summer movies, it's often a case of simply meeting low expectations (or providing an air-conditioned safe haven). Sometimes, though, the supposedly brainless blockbusters can surprise us -- and that was definitely the case with Rise of the Planet of the Apes. There's even been a grassroots For Your Consideration campaign for Andy Serkis, the Meryl Streep of motion-capture, for his role as the man behind the hyper-intelligent CGI chimp who started a revolution. Can you imagine anyone suggesting the same for a Transformer?

Sure, the second Planet of the Apes reboot in 10 years was yet another big-budget visual effects spectacle, but it also had a bit of added depth to go along with its promised apes vs. humans royal rumble. Which makes it a far cry from Michael Bay. Does that mean it deserves an Oscar? No. But when it comes to summer movies, Rise of the Planet of the Apes was way more intelligent than we expected.

Best Nostalgia Trip: The Artist

Forget The Muppets, The Smurfs, the steady stream of ‘80s reboots, or even J.J. Abrams' ode to Steven Spielberg, Super 8. In 2011, one film took the recent trend of nostalgia movies even further back in time: to the 1920s.

A throwback to the silent era, The Artist is a period piece that goes all the way. It doesn't just tell a story from a bygone time; it does so by mimicking it stylistically, too. Is making a black-and-white silent film in 2011 a little gimmicky? Definitely. But don't tell that to critics -- the crowd-pleasing cinematic novelty act has already been named Best Picture of the year by the New York Film Critics Circle and has the inside track in the Oscar race as well.

Best Doomsday Movie: Take Shelter

Rapture predictions dominated the news cycle this year, and while Harold Camping's warnings never came to fruition in real life, they certainly did in movie theaters, as the end of the world played out in all its various permutations in 2011. But whether it was alien attacks, worldwide pandemics or super-intelligent apes, none were as deeply unsettling as Take Shelter. In the film, Michael Shannon plays a man with a family history of schizophrenia and increasingly disconcerting visions of an end-times storm. Trying to hold onto his sanity while building out the tornado shelter in his backyard, the troubled young father repeatedly questions whether he needs to keep his family safe from a impending apocalypse -- or from his own impending breakdown.

The result is a deeply affecting and downright terrifying movie, even without any explosions or hungry cannibals. And between Shannon and 2011's breakout star Jessica Chastain, the acting alone makes Take Shelterone of the best (and most underrated) films of the year, no matter what the subject matter.

Best Sports Movie: Moneyball

That damn Aaron Sorkin did it again. He took another seemingly boring subject like sabermetrics and made it improbably compelling in his screenplay for MoneyBall, a fascinating inside-baseball look at the journey of the Oakland A's from small-market underdogs to unlikely contenders. And while the sports movie competition in 2011 was relatively weak,Moneyball still comes out on top, mostly because of the way it actively avoided the traditional formula, in which everything comes down to a feel-good final game.

Instead, the Social Network of baseball movies sought to reinvent the genre as much as Billy Beane did to reinvent the game, using its niche subject matter to challenge our expectations of what sports movies should be, while still showcasing an obvious love for the game. As a result, Moneyballis a baseball movie for the modern age - one that appeals as much to fantasy GMs and stat-geeks as the die-hards.

Best Oscar Bait: The Descendants

You know the drill: Every year, November and December roll around and your local movie theater gets invaded by an onslaught of films seemingly put together using an Oscar flow chart. With their prestige casts and "important" subject matter, Oscar bait is easy to spot but seldom delivers much more than an armful of statues. And while it may not star Meryl Streep, The Descendants is still a good bet to take home a prize or two this Oscar season, thanks to the award-winning pedigree of writer/director Alexander Payne and star George Clooney.

But while The Descendants may not be the best movie of the year, this well-made family drama about a struggling Hawaiian patriarch is worth seeing because in addition to being a guaranteed Oscar contender it's actually a good movie, too. Shocking, we know.

Best Bromance: 50/50

50/50 may have been marketed as a feel-good comedy, but don't let Seth Rogen fool you: Based on the real-life experiences of screenwriter Will Reiser, Joseph Gordon-Levitt's turn as a 20-something cancer patient isn't exactly laugh-a-minute. That's not to say 50/50 isn't funny - it definitely is - mainly because it's so honest about the entire journey, using humor to diffuse the tension of the serious subject matter.

And largely because it's never overly sentimental or cloying, Jonathan Levine's film makes for the most touching bromance of the year, a tearjerker for guys who wouldn't be caught dead watching one. And we don't care how "manly" you are: If you didn't get choked up at some point during 50/50, you should probably go get checked out by a doctor and make sure you still have a pulse.

Best Guy Movie: Drive

Let's see: a lone hero, car chases, shootouts, and bloody retribution… Drivemay star hipster idol Ryan Gosling, but by hitting all the usual guy movie checkpoints, this is one film on which hipsters and guys can agree.

Slick, hyper-stylized and punctuated by shocking bursts of gory ultra-violence set to an ‘80s-inspired soundtrack, Drive became an instant cult classic with its silent hero and retro styling. And featuring surprisingly badass performances from unlikely sources like Gosling and Albert Brooks, Nicolas Winding Refn's art-house action flick seems similarly destined to join an esteemed list of guy-movie classics. A thrilling and dark genre movie, Drive had us hooked from the very first scene.

Players Movie: Go and Get the Gold

Bollywood has gifted us copies of Hollywood movies so many times before in its long run. For the diverse variety with a wide range, Hollywood movies come up with unique concepts which seem to be fresh even after their sequels in Hindi. So indeed, watching a same story in a new wrapper is now a trend for the potential viewers of Hindi cinema industry. The Italian Job was made in 2003 in Hollywood and here comes its re-make, Players.

The theme is kept undisturbed in the forthcoming Players movie. This movie is going to handle hi-profile stars like Abhishek Bachchan, Bobby Deol, Sonam Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Omi Vaidya and Sikander Kher. So the star casting team of this movie will increase its demand for sure. From November 3, 2011, the trailer of the film has already taken place.

As per the story line, Players Movie Reviews are meant to be up to the mark. The story focuses on the robbery of Gold. The actors are actually in the shoes of the roles of those robbers. This whole team is dangerous and they know every tech based tactics to fetch their target. As a result, they successfully steal million dollars gold. Even after the success, they struggle to keep the treasure safely.

After mugging up the collection one of them deceives the team and disappears along with the gold gathering. Unable to take the gold back they settle down separately in their life. But a game is not over until unless the goal is achieved. Therefore, the team reunite over after a year. They again plan for another robbery with the same spirit as before and this time they planned a robbery for taking back all the stolen gold from their fraud member.

For this reason the game for gold is resumed. With the hi-tech special effects the movie is catchy enough that can make you glued to the scenes. The movie is shot in the international locations. Clear cinematography is also there in the film. So, the Players movie rating is ought to be above average with appreciation. There are high performance chase sequences present in the movie. In short this is a movie for action lovers.

New Zealand and Goa are the main sites of this movie. The movie release is planned to be in theatres from January 6, 2012. Abbas-Mustan is known for their perfection and proficient labour behind the making of a movie. Audience can see such toil in this movie too, as he is the director of the movie. Another vital factor for the success of a movie is Music. Pritam is apt for this part to give a height to the level of nice music. The music of Players has already been launched in the market.

Sensitive Movies Can Change The Direction Of Our Lives Positively

"Cinema and movies can give a new direction to social life. It can execute the task of sanctifying social thinking and render sentiments lovingly soft in nature. Thus society can advance much further in an all round manner. One can never ignore the role played by cinema in social transformation".

Revered Gurudeva Shriram Sharma Acharya. Cinema ab jahar na ugle, lok mangal ki jimmedari samjhe. Akhand Jyoti Magazine, February 2001, Page 40.

Cinema based sensitivity does touch the deep recesses of the hearts of people. Thus their sentiments are very naturally veered towards desired directions. Research analysis has shown that when people watch movies their capacity to think logically and brain based analysis becomes latent. Only the door of the heart remains wide open and they identify with every emotional scene of the cinema being viewed. This state continues much after the movie ends. This is the opinion of Rudransh Gulati who along with being a film critic is also immersed in complexes related to cinema, culture and sensitive sentiments. 45 year old Rudransh is attracted towards not only literature, philosophy, social sciences and psychology but also is deeply interested in spirituality.

Rudransh who is fair skinned, has a good height and body oozing with strength is also well versed with literature dished out by Yug Nirman Mission. He feels Indian Cinema has gone through many phases. One phase was when actors Ashok Kumar and Devika Rani acted in the movie ‘Achut Kanya'. This period was that of freedom struggle. Somewhere down the line lyricists and producers got inspiration from it. After this in the following phase a movie ‘Naya Daur' was filmed. In it we get a glimpse of social reforms. This phase continued right from ‘Do Bhiga Zameen' movie to ‘Purab aur Pashchim'. Films released later very much went astray.

Rudransh opines that the reason behind this is that the bond between literature and cinema weakened a lot. Wrath and incitement in movies were filmed more and more because the film producer knew that its audience was mainly the youth category of society. Without playing with young people's emotions cinema makers cannot fatten their wallets hence they depicted lewd sex and incitement of allsorts in their moves that pleasurably titillated the senses of youth class. It was erroneously believed that successful cinema means filming scenes full of foul language, wrath, fights and semi nakedness. This state is continuing even today yet in between some desirable changes have also been seen in movie making and even now this is being noted.

He says that when Shriram Sharma Acharya took up the spiritual practice/Sadhana of Sukshmikaran (rendering the psyche subtle) at that time he had written that he will change the very thinking pattern of those who think. It was after this that Ramanand Sagar made the serial ‘Ramayan'. As a result the direction of cinema production changed positively. Later Ramanand Sagar met Shriram Sharma Acharya. After this I too met Acharyaji. While digging into his memory Rudransh said that this brief meeting with Shriram Sharma Acharya cast a very deep influence in the mind of Ramanand Sagar. He opined that from whatever I learnt, heard and understood accordingly my opinion is that after Mahatma Gandhi Shriram Sharma Acharya is only one such person who is all the time worrying about the country and world society. He believes cinema to be a medium of world public revolution.

No doubt this experience of Ramanand Sagar was brief but it was very deep and profound. Later he made serials like Krishna and Jai Ganga Maiya. In these very days new smaller channels came on television that later reached every household. Yet whether it is cinema or TV despite it being a business, in between history, culture, patriotism and Super Mantra Gayatri too is heard. No doubt that production of cinema or serials is very expensive. Hence it cannot be totally separated from business yet it can definitely be conjoined to public problems and their solution.

Those who have tried experimenting thus indeed have tasted success. Innumerable people were positively influenced by ‘Gandhigiri' depicted in the film ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai'. Yje movie ‘3 Idiots' that mocked the present educational system also tried to say something positive which was the reason why it was called the best movie of the year. In it youngsters were told that if you imbibe true capability, character and skills you shall definitely reap success. In life what is most required is advancement of talent and its sanctity. If this is achieved everything else in life can be ours for keepsake.

Rudransh Gulati met Gurudeva Shriram Sharma Acharya only once in his life. While remembering it he says: Those days were of winter. Shriram Sharma Acharya was seated in a room on the upper floor. Half the room had sunlight and the rest had a shadow. Along with one member volunteer of Baroda I too was sent into the room. At first sight he appeared akin to an affectionate relative. One perforce starts loving such a person. He asked about our family members health etc. He tried to find out what problems we were facing in our personal lives. Every word of his utterance dripped with affection, love and sense of oneness. Whatever I had thought in my mind remained there itself. But only one point appeared in my intellect and that was may Shriram Sharma Acharya continue speaking and that I avidly keep hearing him.

I do not know how but he commenced talking about cinema and films and said: Today films based on good wholesome topics are not being made simply because movie producers and directors want to taste success using minimum finance and short cuts. They do not make any effort to choose the right stories for their films and fail to labor hard to write good screen plays. Music suited to screen play too is rare to find today. Based on the screen play perfect choice of actors too is missing. They erroneously think that if well known ‘hit' actors are taken the movie shall reap success. No doubt in those rare cases this does happen yet overall this is not true.

After saying this much he laughingly continued: In films the 1st spot should be held by the writer, 2nd by the director, 3rd by the lyricist and music director and then the 4th spot must be given to actors. If the writer and director decide that something truly beneficial must be given to society and that the wealthy class has faith in their cinematic skills, films can usher in a world revolution. On saying this much he discussed 2 films of his times. The 1st one was ‘Mahatma Vidur' which was not allowed to be screened by the British government. The 2nd film was ‘Tyag Bhumi' whose leader despite being a Brahmin dwelled in the Harijan community and lived a life of simple living and high thinking.

Shriram Sharma Acharya said that these 2 films cast a deep impression in the minds of the viewers of those times. Rudransh said that saying this much Shriram Sharma Acharya glancing at him said: It is indeed difficult to make films and usher in a public revolution yet an easier way is to inspire the moviegoers and producers to watch and make only good wholesome films. Rudransh said that he himself trod this path and in the film world even if the transformation is minute yet from it, it appears that people related to the film industry are slowly but surely understanding the fact that films must focus on social problems and giving beneficial solutions for the same. Since our economic management has transformed for the better the above state of affairs too is transforming positively.

Untouchable, Intouchables 2011 Review

While an actor is a good partner. What a duo! Undoubtedly, this comedy is one of the best comedies of the season. Philippe - François Cluzet - becomes a rich aristocrat quadriplegic after a paragliding accident. At first, nothing really fun. And yet, we haven't seen a French comedy of this quality. Philip claims his right to happiness, joy. He wants only a thing: to be left to live. Then Driss arrives - Omar Sy - a young black man have just come out from prison and want only one thing: a simple signature in order to reach his unemployment benefits. Although he is hired as domestic helper of Philippe, he nearly becomes a dog in a bowling game. Time passing and grows among them a beautiful and affectionate sentiments.

Based on a true story of Philippes pozzo di Borgo, Untouchables is a hilarious movie. Where, no question whining about the trials and tribulations of a guy in a wheelchair. Philippe just waiting to laugh at his disability. Needs no compassion on the other. What he wants? Let him live, that's all. He takes what is left: his head.  François Cluzet plays his soft eyes, everything goes through his smile. Subtlety of this magic actor. Philippe is a physical victim when Driss is a social victim. The performance of Omar Sy in the movie is outstanding. The movie is a real breath of fresh air. An object lesson. Some scenes of anthology that will appeal us to watch repeatedly. We will long remember this valve, "No arms, no chocolate! "very enjoyable black Humor.
