The Thanksgiving table is filled with excitement each year. Good food, family, and friends all take center stage during the celebration. The two are on the opposite side of an invasion by the English settlers. In the 1600s, the English land in Virginia, the homeland of Pocahontas. She stumbles upon their camp and a romance begins with Smith. The fairy tale love is disrupted by the greed of Governor Ratcliff; it is believed that Pocahontas's tribe is literally sitting on a gold mine.

As friction builds between the two groups, it is up to the two lovers to try and keep the peace. This animated film is engaging for older adults and filled with action to keep the attention of any teens who may be watching. This is a movie that captures the Native American-settler encounter in a way that is not too violent for young eyes, but accurate enough for the adults to refresh their American history. The soft song selections are enough to lull even the tiniest baby to sleep so that the rest of the crowd can enjoy the movie without interruption.

Every Thanksgiving, there is a channel that features the comedy "Dutch." A single mother (JoBeth Williams) tries to give a little love to her son, Doyle Standish (Ethan Embry), at Thanksgiving after her selfish ex-husband (Christopher McDonald) leaves her holding the bag again by cancelling his holiday time with his son. Her knight in shining armor, her new boyfriend Dutch (Ed O'Neill), volunteers to go to the boarding school her son attends and retrieve him for the holidays. They do not make it out of the dormitory before the bubble bursts. The two end up at each other's throats all along the road trip.

This film is a precursor to the "Are We There Yet?" series produced by Ice Cube; the good guy gets stuck on a bad road trip with his new love's kids. When the news of the new guy reaches her ex-husband, he mysteriously finds time in his busy schedule to try and further destroy her reputation with her son. This film is a roller coaster ride filled with some very funny interactions, but may be suited for a more mature audience. The film is rated PG-13, but if there is someone in the crowd who does not understand about the birds and the bees, he or she may be better off in the football room.

An all-time classic Thanksgiving movie must be included on this list of Thanksgiving favorites. "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" was released in 1973, but is still relevant to the families of today. Any adaptation of the comic strip series always brings laughter and cheer to viewers. This animated gem is the story of the Peanuts gang's celebration of Thanksgiving. Peppermint Patty (Christopher DeFaria) plans a dinner for her family and friends. As is the tradition of the series, Charlie Brown (Todd Barbee) always gets the short end of the stick, but remains as good as gold throughout the story. There is even a scene with a football, just in case viewers think they are missing out on something in the other room. One of the best scenes in the movie is the Thanksgiving prayer given by Linus. In his prayer, Linus relays the importance of the holiday by giving a bit of history surrounding the celebration.

Blame It On The Movie

A couple of months ago after watching a rather strange, yet superb offering from Greek cinema titled 'Dogtooth'; I decided to browse the IMDb website to see what other people thought of the film. Eventually I came across a thread on the message board which was discussing disturbing films; being a dedicated follower of controversial cinema I read on and found that a number of people had mentioned a film called Murder Set Pieces and so, after reading how 'horrific', 'sick' and 'extreme' this film was supposed to be, I added it to my 'LoveFilm' rental list!

A few days later, I was on the 'LoveFilm' website checking to see which films I was waiting for, when I noticed that amongst someone's review for Murder Set Pieces were the words 'You won't get to watch this film, as it's banned in the UK and cut by 20 minutes in the US' in big, bold lettering. Highly irritated, I decided to check whether there was any truth in this and after some research, I discovered that the film was in fact rejected by the BBFC in 2008, thus making it illegal to supply the film in the UK. Apparently, this was a film that in the BBFC's words 'may encourage a harmful association between violence and sexual gratification' something which is apparently 'reflected in research and consistent with public opinion'. And which members of the public might they be exactly?

This was not the first time that I, a grown woman, was being told what I could and couldn't watch (two summers ago I had planned to watch A Serbian Film at Frightfest, until it was pulled due to BBFC cuts). Apparently I am responsible enough to vote, have a mortgage and supervise a classroom full of children, but when it comes to planning my Sunday night in front of the TV, I am far too stupid to be left to my own devices and clearly need some assistance. Why was it that as a university educated adult, with the ability to make financial, political and religious decisions, I was having my viewing habits dictated by people who had never met me, knew nothing about me, yet chose to lump me under the term of 'the general public'? It was because my choice of films were those that fell into the category of movies which had the potential to harm- now I was always under the impression that it was humans who harmed other humans? I don't ever remember a case of a person being bludgeoned to death by an axe wielding video cassette!
Yet the concept of the media having a harmful and corrupting effect on the general public is nothing new. In the past we have seen a whole host of films, computer games and songs demonised because it was thought they had some influence on a particular crime. In the 1970s it was reported that gangs of teenagers dressed as 'Droogs', were committing acts of violence similar to those depicted in A Clockwork Orange, and many say that this, along with alleged death threats, are what led to Stanley Kubrick banning his own film.

The early 1990's saw copies of Child's Play 3 removed from the shelves, after it emerged that the stepfather of one of Jamie Bulger's killers had rented the movie; yet it was never confirmed whether either of the boys had actually watched it.

More recently the computer game Manhunt became the latest target, after it was alleged that the murderer of Stefan Pakeerah- who was stabbed to death, had mimicked behaviour from the violent computer game. And who can forget the 1984 Video Recordings Act with its notorious Video Nasties; films apparently so vile, so violent and bloody that they were considered harmful to watch, on the grounds that they could deprave and corrupt (anyone who has actually seen one, will know that the majority of them are most likely to either send you to sleep or have you wet yourself with laughter).

What is worrying is that few people seem to challenge this perception that life imitates art, (and yes I am aware that many of the texts I have referred to here can only very loosely be described as art!!). What is startling is not the fact that more and more films are crossing boundaries, dealing with taboos and pushing the limits, but that the real problems behind violent crime, anti-social behaviour, promiscuity and immorality are often ignored. When will we start to talk about bad parenting and a decline in community values? When will we acknowledge the fact that sometimes violence does not have a reason, that we can't blame the media or society and that in fact some people are just downright evil?

Did Jack the Ripper remove the intestines of Annie Chapmen because he had just watched Cannibal Holocaust? Can the murder and sexual assault of the victims of the Moors Murderers be blamed on the killers having a penchant for films such as Saw or Hostel? No, these horrific acts happened because the killers were sick, twisted and evil; period. Perhaps a film, DVD, computer game can give ideas, but the evil needs to be in the killer's mind already; a serial killer will maim and dismember regardless of whether they watch a violent film, because they are cold, calculating and often mad. We cannot censor, ban or withdraw a text simply because it might give someone 'ideas'. Where will we draw the line? Are we going to ban school children from studying Macbeth because if features violence and murder or The Colour Purple because of the rape scenes?

Any sane and remotely intelligent person knows that it is not right to copy the acts they may see in the Saw films, in the same way that a person who may enjoy watching extreme films is not necessarily a pervert. I love controversial and so-called disturbing films; I have grown up on a diet of Uwe Boll, David Cronenberg, and Larry Clark. I have sat through The Human Centipede, Irreversible, Martyrs and such like. As a child I was obsessed with horror films and throughout my teens and adulthood, I have set out to watch every film dubbed disturbing, sick, and ultra-violent. But I don't go out and commit random acts of violence, I don't get turned on by watching these films, they don't make me want to go out and rape, murder, or eat other people, why- because I am not a lunatic! Because I am intelligent enough to know right from wrong, because I am one of the many sensible people who can watch a film and know that it is just that- a film.

I overheard a comment from a fellow teacher at my school recently, apparently one of her Year 9 boys has been getting into lots of fights recently because he seems to be playing too many violent computer games; umm no, he isn't doing too well in school because his parents couldn't care less about his education and he is a little trouble maker. I'll end on this note; there is no freedom when it comes to choosing which film to watch- censors, governments and councils have all made sure of that and yet it remains that anyone can choose to become a parent... Films are getting bigger and bigger. Prequels, sequels. Remakes and more. 2012 is a big year for films, and in turn, film posters. The designers and teams behind films have probably, quite a lot on their plate. You'd be forgiven to thinking that they could just chuck then design to an intern.

The Avengers

The Avengers posters showed the full cast of the avengers assembled (see what we did there?) with some shots of individual members, and a clear focus on the date as well as the 'A' for avengers and the studio Marvel. Movie Review: Pixar's Brave (2012)

Pixar has set the bar so high for computer animated features that judgment against them is particularly strict. This works against Brave, which is unfortunately a grandly mediocre accomplishment. For any other studio, it might have been enough to be cute and adventuresome, but for Pixar, audiences will demand emotional attachment, resourcefully funny humor, dramatic poignancy, and character development that begets unforgettable personas. Brave just doesn't bring any of that to the table, instead being palatable and pleasant but never groundbreaking or awe-inspiring. It's hopelessly average - made almost unforgivable because of the quirky, bounding desk lamp that has become known in the industry as a proclaimer of animated masterpieces.

"A princess strives for perfection," insists Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson), a proper, respected leader trying desperately to curb her impetuous daughter's mindset. But defiant young princess Merida (Kelly Macdonald) wants nothing to do with the games of competition that will decide her suitor from the three neighboring clans of Scottish warriors. Betrothal and a planned life couldn't be more unattractive to the orange-haired youth who wants to journey into the forest for adventure and archery practice. While King Fergus (Billy Connolly) entertains the visiting lords and their sons, Merida sneaks out and stumbles into the secluded cottage of an old wood carver who offers to conjure a spell that will forever change the queen's stance on marriage.

As with the trailers for Up, Brave wisely gives nothing away with the brief, comedic, introductory television spots. But magic, destiny, fate, legends, the breaking of traditions, and the pursuit of freedoms are all involved in the fast-paced world of ancient Scotland. There is also no less than three montages governed by singing; an element generally absent from the stirring orchestral compositions found in Pixar's more mature ventures. The stereotypical portrayal of Scottish culture feels reminiscent of How to Train Your Dragon's Viking inhabitants, which is to say that the visuals of clothing, sets, and character designs are largely unoriginal. The typical rebellious teen provides laughs, but again creates a sense of the film struggling to relate to audiences. A role reversal of mother and daughter caring for one another is mildly amusing but also derivative of the frequent theme of prematurely being forced into responsibility and action, found in countless other animations.

Although commonly taken for granted, the water effects are spectacular, as are various elemental inventions. Anymore, scrutiny seems pulled in directions other than the stunning imagery that takes innumerable hours and plenty of talent to construct and animate. Alas, the lack of an involving plot negates the splendor of lighting, cinematography, smoke-like wisps, or even Merida's hair, an impressively buoyant, spongy, carrot-colored mass that is seemingly a character of its own. Comic mischief, silly rudeness, a PG-worthy intensity, and occasionally mirthful dialogue similarly get lost in the resoundingly contrived cure for the curse, complete disregard for closure with the witch, and ignorance to the resolution of Merida's three brothers' plight (which is unexplained despite a more than trivial involvement). Brave is frustratingly trifling.

Auf Wiedersehen, Pet Locations

When the show hit our screens in the early 1980's, it was the time before the internet, so finding out information like where the show was filmed was not easy. In modern times, you simply have to type in what you are looking for, and within seconds you have your answer.

Filming for the first 2 series of the show was mostly done in the UK, with London, Newcastle and Nottingham being used for outdoor locations. In series 1, many locations around London doubled on screen for areas of Newcastle, with only keen eyed viewers in 1983 knowing the difference.

In 1986, the show returned to our screens for a second series, and locations such as Newcastle, Wolverhampton and Spain being used on screen. Nottinghamshire was used for almost all of the UK filming, with the exception of a few scenes being filmed in Newcastle. Wolverhampton on screen was actually Beeston, Nottinghamshire and even an indoor scene in a Spanish pub was actually filmed also on location in Beeston.

It does take a very keen eyed viewer to notice that it is not where it says it is on screen, but many die hard fans of the show, will know exact spots where the cast such as Jimmy Nail and Kevin Whately stood and said there lines.

In 2002, the show was revived by the BBC, and places such as Middlesbrough were used. Newcastle was used also this time, and the show spread it's wings wide and filming was also done on location in Page, Arizona, USA.

2004, saw the 4th and also last 2 episodes of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet being shown on UK screens. This time the location on screen was Cuba, but as they could not acquire a license to film their, the Dominican Republic was used instead. At the end of 2004 2 episodes were shown over the Christmas period, and this brought an end to almost 25 years of the show being on our screens. Thailand was used on screen for these 2 final episodes, featuring 5 of the original cast. Sadly in 1986, Gary Holton died whilst filming the second series of the show, and then in 2004 Pat Roach died of cancer, and did not appear in the final episodes.

Sherlock Holmes Movie: A Game Of Shadows Review

 It is silly to hope of an authentic Sherlock Holmes movie at this epoch. Regardless of the time the story set in 1895 in Victorian London, the movie must be stuffed with all modern movie techniques such as explosions, gunfire, image effects and fights that are totally different from the fistfightof that period.

In "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," many scences screening Victorian London, Paris and Switzerland, but it runs fast. The movie all but hurtles through episodes that would be relaxedly set pieces in old Holmes story. This is as a modern action picture played in costume. There're no time to rethink the approach, after the great sucess of Sherlock Holmes (2009). However, this time, there're more refinement and creativeness.

"Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" begins with a situation that may change Holmes's world: Dr. Watson is getting married. His engagement to Mary Watson (Kelly Reilly) was in the first sequel, and now a date has been set. Holmes (Downey), who regards himself as the best company that the doctor could find, feel a little sorrow about this, but still joins the happy couple on their honeymoon train journey. And in that unlucky journey, he must thow Mary off the train to save her life.

The movie revolves around the rivalry between Holmes and Professor James Moriarty (Jared Harris) – an Oxford don, who is the brain of a secret anarchist plan to use bombings and assassinations to drive Europe into war. As Moriarty owns an huge secret munitions mill producing all kinds of weapons from machine guns to gigantic cannons, he would make a lot of money from that. And Holmes is the only hope to save the world from war, which would endangere lives and existences of European citizens.

If the war happened, it would be out of reach of the eccentric investigator of 221B Baker Street and Watson. It's then the case for James Bond, and Moriarty's grandiosity seems on a scale with a Bond villain. However, Guy Ritchie and his writers Michele and Kieran Mulroney wisely spend some of their best scenes to man-to-man between Holmes and Moriarty.

Their battle progresses to a head in a graceful, high-stakes chess game, carried on in Switzerland in the dead of a winter night on a snowy outdoor balcony. In this movie, Moriarty doesn't gnash or rail, but contends with Holmes in biting language. This turn the movie to Conan Doyle's initiate images about Holmes with his mind working perfectly.

Unlike other Sherlock Holmes movies, in "A Game of Shadows", Dr. Watson has a more proactive role. The movie opens with him recalling the whole adventures on a typewriter that is too modern for 1895 but maybe suggests he's writing years later. There are many scences in which we see Dr Watson uses fists and guns. Luckily his wife didn't see most of the action as she was thrown out by Holmes.

In the center of European diplomacy, Mycroft (Stephen Fry)- Holmes' brother is a funny role, especially when he is nude and shields his netherlands by using arranged foregrounds in the "Austin Powers" tradition. In this movie, we also meet Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams), the mysterious character in much romantic speculation about Holmes, and a gipsy fortune teller, Madame Simza Heron, played by Noomi Rapace.

Robert Downey with his calm and flexibility, drives his character out from the danger, thinks thoroughly before performs it without worry. He appears in many disguises, one with a markedly bad wig, another as a remarkably convincing chair. This is not a traditional Sherlock Holmes with what we remember of the Conan Doyle stories, it is a enjoyable high-caliber entertaining movie. So just put aside your memories of the Conan Doyle stories, and enjoy it.

Getting a shelter in Hazrat Nizzamuddin mosque, he starts the most painful survival. Consequently he comes within reach of his college canteen owner's house to reside. A little by little the bitterness surrounds him and with this his singing capability gets more superior. Eventually he meets his best buddy, Heer and afterwards he gets smitten with her. The twosome becomes addicted to each other despite of the social and legal barriers. As the path of life is full of thorns therefore, Heer becomes a dying patient of Bone Marrow disease. In the end, the death of Heer transforms Jordan into a spoiled brat. Though the storyline is good and touchy, Rockstar rating is below average and still getting a mixed response from the critics unexpectedly.

This season Robert Downey Jr. plays as his normal role in Sherlock Holmes who has long been dubbed as the smartest man in any situation and whoever he has been around with. In this episode thing might change a lot. There is a fresh kid on the criminal mastermind block, Professor Moriarty who is played by Jared Harris. He has the equal intelligence as Holmes. We would not underestimate his intelligence used in a wrong way, the evil way to defeat Holmes. Moriarty appear as the king with respect in every investigation, but somehow he himself being devoid of conscience, let's see how he misuse of his power over Holmes in every investigation.

A Game of Shadows started off with a mystery death of the crowned prince of Austria. The death reason according to the Inspector Lestrade, played by Eddie Marsan is commit suicide. As usual, when Holmes steps in the criminal spot, he gathers all the evidence and diagnoses the criminal scenes, Holmes concludes that the death of the prince is not suicide but died in the murdering hands of Moriarty. Everything seems so suspend, looks like Moriarty is always move one step ahead of Holmes. In actual fact, Moriarty is always plotting from the beginning till the end of the movie. He is planning a great plot of a wide-scale destruction, thinking that he will be changing the history of mankind. On the other hand, Holmes plays an lower hand against Moriatry in most of the scenes due to he is spending his effort to spy on his nemesis, Moriarty before taking any action further.

This sequel hit 2009 mega billboard as the highest record of most popular movie. Sherlock Holmes comes with a reunion between the show's stars Jude Law in the same movie which was directed by Guy Ritchie. The adventures of the two stars are continued in this sequel with much bigger and much better things installed. I can see there are a lot more of slow motion elements in this movie but unfortunately it is not on 3D yet. One of the highlights in this movie is the villain, the sets, the action and almost everything are simply amplified. It seems like a step up from its predecessor.

Undoubtedly the most intriguing aspect of the movie is the bringing in the character of Moriarty who is the archenemy of Holmes. This is the very first super-villain of literature. At first he was only a shadowy figure, but later he was given full attention in the sequel. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo Noomi Rapace was a part of this sequel. She played the role of a gypsy meets up with both Watson and Holmes. She joined them on the adventures. She plays a character similar with a street fighter who is as tough as nails. She adds an interesting dimension to the plot of the film overall.
